In my article “Defining Franchise Quarterback,” I defined franchise quarterback as one who consistently elevates his supporting cast (vs. being propped up by them). What I found was that the performance for all quarterbacks is tied closely to the quality of their supporting casts.

In Part One of this series, I ranked the offensive line for each of the 32 teams in the NFL to account for the quality of pass protection each quarterback should receive in 2018.

In Part Two, I ranked the passing game weapons for each team to account for the quarterback performance boost provided by his player makers.

In this final installment in this series, I’ll bring it all together to determine which quarterbacks will have the best and worst supporting casts in 2018.

Methodology

  1. Ranked each team’s OL Score.
  2. Ranked each team’s Weapons Score.
  3. Weighted average of OL ranks and Weapons ranks to create Supporting Cast score.

Immediate takeways

  • Matt Ryan and Ben Roethlisberger should continue to be buoyed by their great supporting casts (hold outs notwithstanding).
  • We should be very excited about Patrick Mahomes. Kelce + Hill + Watkins + Hunt = *insert fire emoji*

  • Real MVP” Russell Wilson, Andrew Luck, and Deshaun Watson will need to harness their elite athleticism to repeat their recent seasons of success.

  • Case Keenum should surprise again in 2018.

  • Tyrod Taylor and the Browns could be THE surprise of the upcoming season.
