After a 10.5 sack season in 2019, Jaylen Twyman decided just before the season started that he was planning to opt out of the 2020 season. While I will never fault a man or woman for doing what they think is in their best interest, it was a real shame to not see him on that Pitt defense this past season. Along with Patrick Jones, Rashod Weaver and Paris Ford they could have been a really fun group. Nevertheless, Jaylen was a really fun watch and a player that I think projects well at the next level.

Height: 6’2″

Weight: 290 lbs

Strengths: Possesses ideal size for the position. Knows how to use his hands. Has a solid anchor preventing him from getting pancaked by offensive linemen. Does a good job maintaining gap control. Shows real versatility playing the 1T, 3T, and 5T. Has two go to pass rush moves with the push n pull and swim move and uses them well. Knows how to use his hands in the trenches. Has good vision in the passing game, understanding where the quarterback is at all times. Pairs well with his good motor.

Weaknesses: Has a quick first step but isn’t consistent with it. Would like to see him become more varied and explosive with his pass rush moves. Can get washed away by double teams relatively easily. Needs to work on keeping his pad level down, as he gets out leveraged a little too often. His processing of the running game needs improvement but has gotten by with his motor.

Jaylen Twyman has the potential to be a really solid 3T in a 4-3 defense at the NFL level. With his skillset, he could also thrive as a 5T in a 3-4 a la Cameron Heyward. I currently have him as a second round projection, but a really good combine showing his athleticism could skyrocket him up draft boards.
